A Night to Give Back

The Country Friends, a local non-profit that helps people in need in San Diego County.

About our Chosen Charity: The Country Friends

On Wednesday, March 30, we’re hosting our 3rd annual community celebration and charity fundraiser to benefit The Country Friends, a local nonprofit that helps people in need in our community, with a special focus on women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

What started three years ago as the Grand Opening celebration of our 4S Ranch location has turned into a much-anticipated fun and lively night for the neighborhood. “We are truly blessed to be a part of such a vibrant and caring community. This event is a chance not only for us to celebrate our two-year anniversary in 4S Ranch, but also to give back to the community that we call home,” says Dr. Yoo.

Dubbed the #SKY2Year event, 100% of the opportunity drawing proceeds and 20% of all sales will be donated to The Country Friends. “Our last fundraiser raised nearly $5,000 for our charity of choice,” explains Amber. “With the great opportunity drawing prizes we have lined up, I’m hopeful that this year we’ll raise even more for The Country Friends.”

Supporting People in Need Since 1954

The Country Friends was founded in 1954 by a group of charitable women on a mission to support human care agencies in San Diego County, with a special focus on women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Women who joined the group paid an annual membership fee, held regular membership meetings, and coordinated several fundraising efforts throughout the year. Two of those fundraising efforts, launched by The Country Friends in its first year, are still going strong today: the Consignment Shop and The Art of Fashion.

The Consignment Shop

The Consignment Shop is located in Rancho Santa Fe, and is run by volunteers and members of The Country Friends.

In its first year, The Country Friends was gifted a small shop in Rancho Santa Fe, which they renamed the the Trader’s Shop and is now simply the Consignment Shop. Staffed completely by volunteers, the shop continues to be the primary source of funding for The Country Friends, re-selling antiques, art, crystal and furniture. Today, the consignment shop has expanded its footprint on the corner of El Tordo and Avenida de Acacias.

The Art of Fashion

Last year, Amber attended The Art of Fashion fundraiser held annually at The Inn in Rancho Santa Fe.

Also started in 1954 was what has become the largest outdoor fashion show in the country, The Art of Fashion. Held annually at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, what started as a poolside amateur fashion show with tea and homemade sandwiches has evolved into a well-respected professional fashion show sponsored by South Coast Plaza. We are proud to be a 2016 Art of Fashion sponsor!

The story behind The Country Friends is a powerful example of the big impact a small group of dedicated volunteers can make. What once started as less than 200 members has swelled to more than 2,000 today. Over the past 60 years, The Country Friends is responsible for providing nearly 14 million dollars to human care agencies throughout San Diego County!

Most recently, the non-profit launched a three-year Legacy Campaign that will allow The Country Friends to pay off the construction loan used to build the consignment shop, which will free up much needed funding to help feed the homeless, provide shelter and services for battered and abused women and children, and provide therapeutic services for mentally challenged adults and children. The goal of the Legacy Campaign is to raise $1,000,000 dollars. We are so excited to be able to help them give back and contribute to that number!
